Strathearn Harriers - New Year's Day Run 2014

Loch Rannoch half marathon

Race Date: 12 October 2025

The Loch Rannoch half marathon is part of the Run Nation Rannoch festival, and is a scenic out-and-back route on the south side of Loch Rannoch. Ronan McDermott and Doug Lawson ran the race this year, and Ronan gave us this report:

Hi myself and Doug Lawson took part in loch Rannoch half yesterday, not wearing harriers vests as we were each raising money as part of teams for different causes.

It was a beautiful day for running, surprisingly warm for 12 October and we were encouraged by Fiona McDonald and Tony Wayte on their bikes as we went around the course which was greatly appreciated!

It’s a scenic half marathon and the out and back nature of the run is fun when there’s a team dynamic but the lack of a road closure licence and runners having to deal with cars and vans means it’s not in the same league as loch leven half from my perspective.

Doug and I got home in similar times of 1.4x but really was not about that yesterday and glad to say the different fundraisers were a big success.

For the record, Ronan finished in 1.44.44, in 69th position overall and 8th MV40, and Doug wasn't far behind with a time of 1.47.45, in 101st position, and 5th MV55. The race was won by Ryan Beattie in 1.13.16 and there were 522 finishers.

Doug was part of a team raising money for Just Wheels, which works to help people with physical disabilities in Tanzania. Ronan was in a team raising money for The Eve Appeal, which is a leading gynaecological cancer charity, in memory of a friend. Follow the links if you would like to make a donation.
