Race to the Base

As a warm-up to the Lairig Ghru race in June, Julia Greenlees and Ruth Clark made the long trip north to Lochinver for what must be a contender for Scotland's most scenic half marathon. This is a new trail race, starting in the village of Lochinver and heading east along mixed terrain tracks to the foot of Suilven before turning back along the same route. The whole route covers 1700ft of elevation gain.
Ruth was 10th woman, completing the event in 2.15.10, while Julia was 32nd woman, in 2.27.08. Sadly, there were no age category results.
The race was won by W Krogulec (very formal results!) in 1.32.52, and the women's race was won by J Klimas in 1.58.39 (the only woman to finish in under two hours). There were 192 finishers, which must have done wonders for the shops in Lochinver.
