The Highland Fling Ultra is one of the best established ultras in Scotland. It follows the West Highland Way over the southern half of the route, covering 53 miles with 2300m of ascent, mostly on off-road trails. This year, it was Nick Gough's turn to take on this challenge, and his wife Mags gave us this report: A great finish for Nick Gough today at the Highland Fling. Finishing in a strong 68th overall. (32nd MV40). A good steady start with more challenges happening in the second half. Both because of distance and terrain. Flying over the last 5k for a 10.21 finish. Reckon his chips were well earned!!
The race was won by Rowan Bothwood of Carnethy in a speedy 6.55.12, and there were 458 finishers. The race record is 6.41.13, set by Rob Sinclair in 2017, so this year's winning time was up there with the best.
