Strathearn Harriers - New Year's Day Run 2014

Angkor Wat Half Marathon

Race Date: 07 December 2025

The prize for the most exotic race this week goes to Doug Lawson! Many thanks to Doug for the following race report: Well, this one was always going to be super-sticky in the Cambodian heat and it didn’t disappoint. Thoroughly energy-sapping, despite a 5.30am start before sunrise, but the humidity built and it was a case of pouring a full bottle of water over the head at every drinks station. It wasn’t pretty [at circa 1:59] but with >16k participants on an amazing course, touring through Temple grounds, it was still pretty special!

Apart from being a thoroughly exciting venue, the race has a wider purpose. From the website: Runners from all over the world participate to support a ban on the manufacture and inhumane use of anti-personnel mines. Entry fees and additional financial support foster independence among landmine victims by helping provide prosthetic limbs, social reintegration programs, and supporting other relevant and needed programs such as education and prevention of any serious new diseases in Cambodia. Another important part of charity also goes to the support Poor Children in hospitals such as Angkor Children Hospital and Kantha Bopha Children Hospital.
