Strathearn Harriers - New Year's Day Run 2014

Greenmantle Dash

Race Date: 03 January 2026

The Greenmantle Dash is a traditional year opener, with a short sharp 3.2km up-and-down route, ascending east 200m up Ratchill from the village of Broughton. The organisers describe is as packed with a bit of everything – scaling walls, wading burns, traversing bogs & farm fields, tackling steep ascents and descents, as well as a final road sprint to the finish.

Thanks to Hanna McInally for this report: Yesterday was the Greenmantle dash in Broughton with 99 senior runners and at least 45 kids running the fun run. The weather was stunning despite being chilly.

We (Ralph, Hanna and Finlay) were very exited to do the first race this year especially one that includes a water crossing and chasing after the kids from the junior fun run!

The main start was from the brewery at 11 o clock running up a small hill and retracing your route to finish near the local hall. The fun run started 5 minutes later following the same route towards the hill where the kids were turned around earlier to the finish.

Finlay crossed the line in first place followed by Ralph McInally (10th senior overall) and Hanna (3rd female overall). It was a very quick up and down fun run for all of us!!

The race was won by Thomas Hilton of Edinburgh University H&H in 15.28, and the women's race was won by Heidi Ross of Carnethy in 20.03.
