Strathearn Harriers - New Year's Day Run 2014

Glen Rosa Horseshoe Race

Race Date: 13 June 2026

The Glen Rosa Horseshoe race on the Isle of Arran is a Category AL Scottish hill race covering 20km with 1,670m of ascent, requiring navigation skills on its mostly unmarked route. Thanks to Harrison Cunnah for the following race report: A cancelled Troon ferry had us worried we’d get over to Arran. With some mild delays and a last minute bus ride we registered with 10 minutes to spare! It’s a proper hill race, the Horseshoe is pretty spectacular: ample amounts of heather grappling and bog trotting. Aside from the biblical weather at times, the race didn’t disappoint and Dave Dowse and I managed to get round in time for another quick dash to the ferry port for the 4:30 boat. And most importantly arrived in Bridge of Allan in time for a fish supper.

Harrison finished in 11th place overall (out of 61), in a time of 3:18:36, and Dave Dowse in  3:42:58 for 27th place.

The race was won by David Lewis of Dark Peak FR in 2.30.15.
