Applecross Duathlon

Race Date: 19 September 2026

The Applecross duathlon is another multi-sport event with spectacular scenery, making for a very real challenge. 

Thanks to Monica Thomson for the following race report: 16 of us challenged and raced at this 'brutally brilliant' event, a 9 mile trail run followed by a 15 mile road cycle. The weather was 'perfect'. Special mention to our four incredible juniors, two with a first attempt at it this year and smashed it. They all showed such grit, determination and strength of character. Inspirational as ever! (Quinn (aged 11), Iona, Robin and Harris T). Debut senior Harriers included Anne McGlashan, Ellen Farrell, Joshua Tyrell and Katy Turnbull who took on the Challenge (same course but starts early). Returning racers were Jon Turnbull, Jim Reid, Mike Thomson, Monica Thomson, and Gi. Harrison took a brilliant 4th place overall with 3rd Senior Male prize awarded! We all celebrated with a beer and the annual village ceilidh as the cool down.

A 9 mile trail run and a 15 mile road cycle don't sound too much, but the run takes competitors from Applecross over some wild hills to a random lay-by on the coast road between Shieldaig and Applecross, and the bike ride features twists and turns and non-stop undulations, along with a head wind for much of the way. Easy it's not!
